You need to teach, to be the one speaking in order to have an independent reputation. Your dancing isn't enough. And like we've all said a million times there are more women who can dance at the level that they could partner with any of the top dancers than there are those top dancers, so the women are quite interchangeable.

While the advances acknowledged above are noteworthy, resistance to women leading, and women in leadership positions, remains among male tangueros. Perhaps that resistance reflects anxiety, or fear that their territory will be infringed upon. In one illuminating interview, for example, a young professional first rejected the notion that a woman can hold her own in an advanced tango class, then suggested that even if a woman can lead at the level of a male teacher, such behavior is an attempt to deny her gender, something that makes him uncomfortable:
